The New York Chronicles: Life of an OC Girl in NY – Entry 50
DING DING DING! It’s the 50th entry… My 50th entry living in New York City. Time sure flies.
***mondo post alert***
Hey all! We’re getting quite comfortable in our apartment and we love the area we live in. We are definitely East Village folk… like I’ve read before… “The village isn’t a neighborhood, it’s a way of life.”
They film a lot of movies on our street. Last month they were filming Step Up 3d and last week they were filming Date Night, a movie starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell. James Franco is also in it…. Mmm… Yummy yummy James. Today we got another notice on our door from another indie film company notifying us that they’re filming a movie this week.
Here is a pic of a film crew right in front of our door. The dark red building in the middle is our apartment building. We’re located on the 4th floor. Yep! That’s mah home!
Something that I love about NYC is that people here really appreciate good weather (and weather in Cali trumps NY any day). People are always out and so are we. We love eating outdoors. If there’s any restaurant that has a front patio or a garden you’ll catch me eating there.
Also, Michael Jackson has sadly left us. Fortunately, he’s also left behind his legacy and I am forever grateful. The news really shocked us and didn’t really hit me until the next day when I was completely devastated for a long time. The weekend after his death, we visited the Apollo Theater where he got his big break performing with his big brothers in the Jackson 5.
Dan set up a video you can watch here:
The whole event was memorable and just listening to the crowd singing all of MJ’s songs brought back my childhood. We’ll miss you, MJ! RIP
Okay, on to happier things. This episode (my Cousin Peter said my blog is like the Anne show taking place outside of it’s normal setting. haha.) will be about our trip to Ireland. Going back in time now to the end of MAY….
I’ve always wanted to go to Ireland, but not so much until I saw the movie, PS I Love You. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking! And we went to that exact spot too! Luckily, my hubby is always down for whatever so off to Dublin we went!
This ladies and gentlemen…. THIS… is what made me want to visit Ireland. It’s travel porn for your eyes.
The first thing we did when we got to Dublin was to get settled in our hostel.
Okay, I’m still getting questions about hostels. Can’t I be kidnapped? Raped? Murdered? Mugged? Those are such absurd questions. Haha. Why would I want to subject myself to any of those things? I’ve stayed in numerous hostels all over the world!
And eep! Sharing a room and restroom with other people! Oh no! LOL. Doesn’t bother me too much. If you don’t have a backpacker’s heart you’ll never understand our motives.
I
staying in hostels and meeting all the great people from all over the world…VERY much!
Our hostel was located right in the Temple Bar district where all the pubs are at. Needless to say, our area wasn’t very quiet… just the way we like it!
Dan enjoying his first fresh Irish Guinness for dinner. He says it’s a lot better than American Guinness which is what all the guide books say….
Temple Bar at night…
In the mornings, we got free breakfast at our hostel. Most hostels give free continental breakfast. See? No scary people… Just a bunch of college graduates on their month long euro trips, some old people, and even a family with a 2 year old running around, she was darling.Check out the cool restroom! Co-ed! HAHA
On the first morning after getting breakfast we headed to the Guinness Storehouse to get our edumacation on how Guinness is made and the history of it’s creation.
There’s a 360 view at the top…
Another pint of the Black Stuff
Here I’m going to post a bunch of photos around Dublin:
Inside Dublin Castle
Look at me sitting with the old man. Haha.
Trinity College
The Irish Famine Memorial.
We also took a few trips outside of Dublin City for the great views in the various valleys and near lakes, for the very reason I wanted to come to Ireland in the first place! Check out all that green! This is one of the spots they filmed Braveheart at! Great awesome movie!
Here’s one of the roads they filmed PS I Love You on.
Okay… That was our trip to Ireland! Hope you enjoyed the photos! I’ll be back with Dan’s birthday… finally!
As they say in Ireland… Cheers!!!

Wow, that was one great post about Ireland. I’ll try to see if I can afford to go there next year if I choose Europe over Japan/China. Anyways, there were 4 keywords that caught my attention in this post: “Tina Fey”, “Porn” and “Guiness”. Cheers!
that’s so cool that they film movies outside your apartment!
