The New York Chronicles: Life of an OC Girl in NY
Entry 35
I've been busier than I have before and so I'm quite behind on blogging. I'll try to catch up! First off, I wanted to say... OH MAN, is it cold in New York City! And don't say that I'm whining too much. It's the coldest winter NYC has had in about 5 years they are saying. Great, I come here at a bad time in the economy and a bad time in weather as well. Even after this... I'm lovin' it, lovin' it, lovin' IT.
I've always got the new year to look forward to. With that said... Happy Chinese New Year!! Momma told me that the person who enters your home first brings his luck with him for the whole year. And as a group, the Roomies decided we'd have Dan do it. This is the first time I'm trying this out, but I'm posting a video of this special event. And it wasn't planned but, like the Lame-O that I am, I also ended up randomly walking through the apartment so you'll get a good luck at it as well.
So we've had two important events I need to blog about. We celebrated Laura's 26th birthday! Woot woot! Like the hick that she is, we celebrated at Rodeo Bar. I had to go home because I wasn't feeling well at all. I felt so bad! As you can see in the photo, it's not a genuine smile, although my love for her is real. Haha. I hope you forgive me, Bear-Bear. Love you! And I'm glad I was here to celebrate with you like you did with me for my birthday in NY last year.
We swore in a new president. Welcome, Barack Obama! I have a feeling it would have been a lot better traveling last year when he was president. Then foreigners wouldn't be saying... "You need to get rid of your president already!" haha. What do you say to that? There was a funny incident with my hubby in which a foreigner asked him, "Man, what happened to you guys? You used to be so cool in the 80's." I must agree. I was born in the 80's so it's evident. I mean, we had Madonna and the 'cool' Michael Jackson. But yeah, I watched the inauguration on TV.
There are things that I've learned about clothing here. Beanies, scarves, long coats, boots, gloves... these are not to be worn to make you look cuter as is the case in Orange County. These are necessities my friends. You need these to keep you from dying of frost bite or hypothermia. I've also figured out that during the winter, my getting-ready time increases rather substantially due to the fact that I'm putting a lot more layers on. Layers are a must!
I had a discussion with a friend about the heat and the cold. Which is worse? He says heat. I used to say that, but now I say cold. Here are my reasons... sure the heat annoys you, makes you feel fatigued and irritated. But man, the cold. It's quite painful. Put on a jacket and you're fine, you say. Well jackets don't cover 100% of your body. Let's say you manage to cover every inch of your body except your ears? You'll still be in ultimate painage. The cold has a way of gnawing at your flesh. Seriously. I was trying to keep my hands warm one morning by clenching them together as if I was praying and the pinky that was exposed felt like it was going to freeze and break off. And just my pinky being exposed was enough to make me curse and want to run home and cry.
We do not dress up like marshmallows for fun, people! Aww... Bear-Bear is all bundled up. She has a habit of slipping and sliding. One of these days she's going to eat it real good on her ass... on the wet snow! I await the day she comes home and tells me all about it.
Oh, how I curse the cold...
And I CURSE the cold...
But when I go outside the day after on a nice bright and sunny day... I say... Wow. I really do think it's pretty.
Which brings me to the reason why we went out one day with Sonya and Adam... and Nam, our own personal photographer to Central Park. Aww, Nam. He's so great and fantastic.
Sonya had been wanting to go over to Jersey City for a while to visit Mitsuwa, the Japanese Market, for a while and so one weekend we finally made it out there. It's so easy to get to. Just $3 and a half an hour on a bus and you're right in the plaza.

We heart each other forever!

Here I am waiting in line for the bus. (No, not really)
On the bus...
Inside....
The yummy yummy food that gave us food coma for days... Is this a lot of food for four people you think? Damn right it was. I had the udon and it was scrump-diliumptious (is that how you spell it?)
Taking a picture in front of the awesome Manhattan cityscape...
We even had time to do some shopping for some Japanese goods. They have all sorts of cool stuff. We're having some visitors soon so the toilet drops were a must. Three extra guys in the house equals three times more pooping sessions and three times the stench.
There are apparently some things you can't buy on Sundays for some weird reason.
Well, I think this was a good long enough post. So we'll cut it here for now and I'll be back sooner to update more. I need to cacth up!
Ta ta!
